High school students can take Pitt Community College classes through the Career and College Promise program. This program is a collaborative effort between the N. C. Community College System and the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. It provides seamless dual enrollment educational opportunities for eligible North Carolina high school students in order to accelerate completion of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees.
Regardless of whether a student plans to attend college or enter the workforce, Career and College Promise prepares eligible students for life after high school by providing focused preparation leading to college credit or entry-level job skills. Tuition for these classes is free. Students are responsible for a small student fee and must provide their own books.
Career and College Promise is available to high school juniors and seniors who attend public high schools, private high schools or home schools and meet certain eligibility requirements. PCC offers CCP pathways that are aligned with the K-12 curriculum and career and college ready standards adopted by the State Board of Education. Students will be enrolled in a Core 44 College Transfer pathway leading to completion of college transfer credit or a Career and Technical Education pathway leading to a certificate, diploma or degree. PCC currently offers 28 programs for high school students to choose from, including 3 college transfer pathways, 7 diplomas and 18 certificates.
Eligibility for these two pathways is based on the following:
Core 44 College Transfer Pathways
- Must be a high school junior or senior.
- Have a weighted GPA of 3.0 on high school courses.
- Demonstrate college readiness on an assessment or placement test.
Career and Technical Education Pathways
- Must be a high school junior or senior.
- Have a weighted GPA of 3.0 on high school courses or have the recommendation of the high school principal.
- Meet all prerequisites for the career pathway.
To maintain eligibility for continued enrollment, a student must continue to make satisfactory progress toward high school graduation and maintain a 2.0 college GPA after completing two courses.
